The Office maintains a map with which interested members of the public can view the home, work and school addresses of offenders in the county. In compliance with state laws, members of the public may request name-based criminal history checks on any individual and personal fingerprint-based checks. The Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation processes requests for criminal records from organizations and members of the general public. However, all requests for criminal background records and checks are processed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which serves as the primary custodian of criminal history information of the state. The Blount County Sheriff's Office is charged with maintaining law and order in the county, as well as generating data and managing records pertaining to criminal activity within county limits. There were 312 and 115 reported incidents of burglary and motor vehicle theft, making them the 3rd and 4th most common criminal acts respectively, while the least reported crimes were recorded to be rape, robbery, arson, and murder/manslaughter which, combined, constituted only 3.5% of the reported crimes in 2017. Aggravated-assault was the most common of the county's violent crimes, accounting for 22% of the reports received. A closer look at the data revealed larceny-theft to be the most recurring crime, accounting for 47% of the total index crimes. The estimated crime rate per 1000 for the county was put at 50.19. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Blount County law enforcement agencies reported a net total of 6,521 criminal acts committed within county limits in 2018.
